Sophomore Midterm Exam Assessment- Level 2
Demonstration Presentation


This assignment is worth 20% of your mark


What will you do?

  • You will be presenting a how-to demonstration.
  • You will teach us/show us “how-to” do something of interest to you.
  • Pretend as if we know nothing about your topic
  • You must use at least one visual aid or prop.
  • Your presentation should be at least 3.5 minutes , but no longer than 4 minutes.

    (You may also give a presentation about your hometown.)


What should you focus on?

  • Introduction: a) Capture our attention b) Tell us what you will be doing or what we will be learning
  • Demonstration and Steps: Demonstrate all the necessary steps in an organized, logical manner
  • Conclusion: Signal that the demonstration is finished
  • Focus on the physical delivery: eye contact ,posture, gestures, voice inflection, voice projection
  • Be entertaining—please please don’t be boring!
  • Be prepared

  • VERY IMPORTANT: Remember you are not just a presenter—you also need to be a good audience member who listens to and supports your classmates while they are doing their presentations.  To encourage active listening and engagement while others are speaking you are able to gain bonus points!
After each presentation you may be called upon to ask a question about the presentation.  If you are prepared to do so when you are called upon, then you will earn 2 bonus points per question asked. Notice there is a place for bonus points on the rubric!!!

Remember—this is a speaking activity, so make sure you focus on speaking and not reading!
