   Course Description:

The Sol-SUP Freshman Winter Camp 2016 is designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore changes in their lives during their first year of university, and use the medium of digital storytelling to express and share their thoughts and emotions.  Students will work in pairs to complete their projects, including, being part of a collaborative community of 4 or 6 students (made up of 2 or 3 additional pairs of students).  The collaborative community is responsible for providing peer feedback and critiquing others’ work.

Course objectives:
         The objectives for this course are to:
  • Students will work as a cooperative team, valuing team members’ opinions, to creatively solve problems.
  • Students will self-reflect on the changes they have experienced in their 1st year of university and gain a better understanding of “where” their future will take them.
  • Students will network and develop relationships amongst peers of differing backgrounds and interests.
  • Students will collaborate in teams and encourage constructive feedback.
  • Students will reflect on the challenges they have faced and the ways they have overcome them.
  • Students will create a digital story to dramatize changes in their lives.
  • Students will present themselves in an organized way.
  • Students will operate confidently and successfully in a university level English language course.

By the end of this course you will have:
·         Performed at least two (2) presentations.
·         Brainstormed ideas.
·         Created and organized speech outlines.
·         Practiced the various elements of presentation delivery.
·         Created a digital story
·         Explored their life changes over the course of their 1st year of university
·         Researched images/video from the internet or create their own photos/videos
·         Pairs will create a digital story that is 3 minutes in length minimum to 4 minutes maximum.

  Teaching Strategies:
Presentations, speeches, role-plays, demonstrations, modeling, group and pair work, in-class preparation, critical evaluation of self and peers, and others as the instructor sees fit.

WOOSONG UNIVERSITY COURSE POLICY

You are expected to behave appropriately in your class.  This means:
      Pay attention to the teacher.
      Do not talk when your teacher or your classmates are talking.
      Participate in class.  If the teacher asks you a question, try to answer it.
      Bring your book, pencil, paper and dictionary to class every day.  
      Do not use your cell phone for chatting or calling during class. Dictionary use may be permitted (teacher’s discretion)
      Do not bring a photocopied version of the textbook; all students MUST have a genuine textbook.


Attendance
If a student is absent, they must first talk to their Department Head and obtain an excused absence form.   That form must then be given to the instructor.  Only absences for sickness, car accidents, military service interviews, training for army reservists, departmental events, and mourning will be considered with documentary evidence. Students can have up to TWO CLASSES excused per semester.  Allowance for any further excuses is up to the instructor's discretion.  

If a student is absent (unexcused) from one third of the classes in that semester, the student will automatically receive an “F.” Students should check their attendance as often as possible to avoid mistakes.
